Context to this strike
The British Columbia Teacher's Federation has put out a document outlining the issues and the context of the teacher's dispute. It gives a good summary of what has lead up to this walkout. You can find it here.
This blog is my venting place and a place to put strike info, articles, and pictures. We're standing up for something extremely important - Public Education!

Hillary, thank you for visiting my blog and leaving your well thought out comment. Unfortunately, on this issue anyhow, I do not agree with you. Unfortunately, in the short term neither you nor I have any right to decide which laws are just and should be followed and which ones are unjust and should not. If you don't follow this simple rule then you are an anarchist. In the longer term you do have the democratic right at the voting booth to help get the laws shaped as you would like them.
I actually have several teacher friends whose work environments I want to be improved dramatically. But breaking the law is not Step #1 to achieving this.
Thanks for your comment. We can disagree on the matter, for sure. But please don't jump to the conclusion that I am an anarchist. That's simply not true. We don't have a governemnt who obeys laws either, so it's a little hard to take the "shame on teachers" thing. I guess by your definition the government are anarchists, too. That just sounds silly and extreme. It's not that black and white.
Anyway, thanks for the comment! You have the priveledge of being the first! :)
If this American can chime in...
Tell that to Ghandi, and Rosa Parks, and Martin Luther King Jr., the guys in the Boston Tea party, and a host of other historical figures who broke UNJUST laws because there was a greater principle to achieve.
I have a word for those who would be nice under unjust circumstances - OPPRESSED
Thank God for those who take a stance for what is right. Even if it means breaking the rules (laws). Gosh, I might still have been a slave pickin' cotton if it wasn't for a few anarchists.....
